The Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
What an incredible year we had in 2011. For followers of the British Royal Family, it was certainly a year to remember. Not only did we all celebrate the finest Royal Wedding ever, filled with excitement and pageant, but we also witnessed several other great royal milestones. There was the wedding of Zara Phillips (daughter of Princess Anne) and Mike Tindall, not forgetting the 90th birthday of the Duke of Edinburgh and the 85th birthday of Her Majesty the Queen.
The year 2012 could well eclipse all these great events. Not only do we have the London Olympics to look forward, but we're tremendously excited by the forthcoming Diamond Jubilee of Queen, Elizabeth II, Apart from Queen Victoria, our Queen is Britain's longest serving monarch and there will be plenty to celebrate! Some of us here at Peter Jones China have already started to dust down the flags and bunting in anticpation of the inevitable street parties. Peter Jones himself recalls those times in the early 1950s, "We were all so sad to lose our inspiration, King George VI, but we were equally excited at the prospect of our new young Queen ascending the throne."
